Unions call upon Stellantis to fire Carlos Tavares
The heat is rising in the fight between United Auto Workers (UAW) and Stellantis.
According to UAW president, Shawn Fain, the performance of Carlos Tavares in his role as the Stellantis CEO has been abysmal. He went as far as to literally say, “If an autoworker in the plant did as piss-poor of a job as Tavares, they would be fired. It’s time for Stellantis to shitcan Carlos!”
Those are some harsh insults to fling in public, but sales data in the United States in Q3 puts them in abundantly clear context. Four Stellantis-owned brands – Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge and Fiat – sold a combined 51,406 vehicles in the third quarter so far. Meanwhile, Hyundai sold 53,801 units of its Tucson crossover alone, single-handedly outperforming these four brands. There is no sugarcoating it: the situation is dire for one of America’s biggest car manufacturers.
