Stellantis pulls diesel vans from sale in Europe again
Three passenger vans – the Citroen Berlingo, the Opel Combo and the Peugeot Rifter – will once again drop diesel engines heading into the next model year.
Back in 2022, Stellantis tried to remove diesel vans from its European lineup and offer all-electric variants instead, but they sold very poorly. In spring this year, all three models were once again made available with diesel engines.
Some of us were happy to hear the news, but the joy was short-lived – as it now turns out, Stellantis has failed to meet its average emission quota across its entire vehicle range in the EU in 2024. As such, the company desperately needs to remove some of the more polluting vehicles from its EU lineup before the end of the year.
You can still buy any of the three vans listed above, but the opportunity window will close on Monday, September 30. Stellantis will permanently drop the diesel powertrain option for these three models before the end of the year.
Other vans, including those based on the Citroen Berlingo, Opel Combo or Peugeot Rifter, will continue to be available with a variety of ICE engines.
