Reports: Jeep and RAM drop two 5.7L V8 models from production
The Grand Cherokee L and the Ram 1500 Classic are no longer available in North America with a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 under the hood, reports Mopar Insiders.
The Ram pickup came out 15 years ago and gained its “Classic” suffix when a new generation arrived. With it leaving the market for good, it means you cannot buy a new 1500 model with a V8 anymore. Chances are decent that the Ram 2500 lineup will retain its eight cylinders, though, so you can consider that one.
As for the Grand Cherokee L, unofficial reports indicate that the V8 version was an extremely poor seller, accounting for only around 4% of all sales. With it discontinued, the SUV is now available exclusively with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, although rumors claim that it will be retiring in 2025, too.
It seems likely that Jeep will ship the 2025 Grand Cherokee L with a 2.0T Wrangler engine instead, tuned to deliver over 300 horsepower (225 kW). This would let it improve its power output despite losing half the cylinders.
