Lexus LX gets a powerful new hybrid spec and an off-road edition
Those in the market for a Lexus LX may now obtain it in a high-end hybrid spec called the LX 700h. It will be available with the optional Overtrail package when it goes on sale in select countries at the end of the year.
The world’s first partially electric LX features a 3.5-liter V6 engine and an electric motor integrated into a ten-speed automatic transmission. It sources its power from a battery mounted below the trunk floor area. The battery is heavily water-insulated, allowing the car to cross water up to 700 mm (27.3 inches) high. Lexus has yet to reveal all relevant performance figures, though.
New rigidity-focused structural reinforcements, improved engine mounts, tweaked adaptive shocks and a fine-tuned transmission should result in reduced vibration and a smoother ride in all scenarios, the company says.
The exterior of the hybrid stays exactly the same as the standard LX, so you will have to opt for the Overtrail package coming out in 2025 if you want upgraded looks. It comes with its own exterior finish, a black radiator grille and exclusive 18-inch Gunmetal Grey wheels shod in mud tires. Three differential locks should make it a capable off-roading machine, too, but it’s still a bit early to judge.
The entire LX lineup for the next model year comes with a transmission joystick, a 12.3-inch multimedia display and reworked wireless charging pads. Higher trims let you buy ergonomic front seats with advanced massage functions. Last but not least, the Safety System+ ADAS package gets a major update.
