Omoda’s next performance saloon gets spotted in China

Here is what the Chinese marque’s new premium vehicle will look like.

Overall, the exterior comes close to that of the Chery Arrizo 5 GT – you can find it in the enclosed video and compare with the photos. The performance car celebrated its domestic debut last fall. Considered next to it, the Omoda prototype spotted on the streets today had a different radiator grille design, contrasting accents all around and fog lights surrounding the bumper – the Arrizo 5 GT had none.

Multiple clues evidence that it is an exports-oriented version of the car. In China, Omoda does not exist as a standalone auto brand, instead being just one of the badges Chery puts on its cars. This particular test vehicle, however, bears the name ‘Omoda’ both on the trunk lid and the hood cover, where the Chery badge usually resides.

Powering the Arrizo car mentioned above is a 1.6-liter turbo engine rated at 197 PS (194 hp / 145 kW) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission lets it sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in six seconds flat.
