VW explains why it ditched DSG in Taos
As you may have noticed, the updated Volkswagen Taos for North America is a fully automatic car with no option for dual-clutch transmission. Why? Because customers couldn’t figure out how to use the DSG properly, the company reveals.
According to Volkswagen, many Americans who drove cars with the automaker’s DSG transmission didn’t care to learn to use it properly, leading to breakdowns. Others perceived the quirks of this transmission type as design defects and came to dealerships asking for a fix.
That’s why all 2025 Taos crossovers in the United States have an eight-speed epicyclic automatic on board instead of the unpopular DSG.
