Genesis pondering an affordable EV for Europe
The executives of the Genesis brand are considering introducing a compact and wallet-friendly electric car in Europe primarily targeted towards city dwellers. If greenlit, the model may look like the Mint Concept (in the gallery and the video below), which debuted four years ago but never reached the assembly lines.
The proposed EV is envisioned as both the smallest and the cheapest Genesis model, marketed a step below the GV60. This positioning should enable it to compete with the likewise unreleased low-end Tesla EV.
It remains to be decided whether such a car will be made or not, though. According to Hyundai Design Director Sang Yup Lee, Genesis needs to conceptualize this “premium urban EV” in more detail before proceeding.
For his own part, Genesis Planning Director Mark Choi said that the company needed to take many other factors into consideration, including existing sales targets for other cars, availability of industrial capacities and raw material costs. Having said that, he did not rule out the viability of a mini-Genesis for Europe.
