Ford Mustang hardtop sells for just $44k

A unique 13-year-old Ford Mustang with a retractable hard top found a new owner earlier this week who paid U.S. $44,000 for it. The car was built by Galpin Auto Sports for the SEMA show.

In addition to implementing a full-fledged new roof assisted by servomotors, the tuner team modified the suspension using Ford Racing component. Further modifications included 20-inch wheels, a bespoke body kit and tinted lights all around. A Shaker 500 audio system appeared inside the cabin along with a modern infotainment system complete with a touchscreen and navigation software.

The stock 5.0-liter V8 stays that way, meaning it still produces its standard 418 PS (412 hp / 307 kW) and 529 Nm (390 lb-ft) of torque. The only difference is in the exhaust system, which comes from Flowmaster. The buyer of the car said in the auction comments that they intended to tune the engine with a large supercharger and other high-end components.

The previous owner purchased the show ride in last December and had only put 15 km (9 miles) on it since then. From its creation in 2010, the Mustang droptop hasn’t even covered 1,500 kilometers (930 miles).
