Ford Explorer EV to make a journey round the world

Ford has come up with an original way to promote its all-electric Explorer SUV: driven by traveler and Guinness Book record holder Lexie Alford, it will make a trip around the entire world.

The start of the journey is scheduled for late 2023. Alford, 21, was recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the youngest person to have ever made a tour of the whole world.

Aside from advertising the battery EV it introduced just a few days ago, Ford wants to reminds us all about a similar journey that took place a century ago. Aloha Wanderwell, from Canada, drove her Ford Model T through 80 countries of the world in 1922–1927, earning her the title of the world’s most-traveled woman of the era. Other sources say she only visited 43 countries, but we are not here to argue historical accuracy.

The route remains to be revealed, but Ford says Alford will be visiting ‘The most beautiful regions of the Earth’ and get acquainted with all the diverse cultures inhabiting it.

In case you missed the launch, the Explorer EV runs on Volkswagen’s MEB underpinnings and has largely the same tech, but different exterior and interior styling. Ford has yet to tell us what motors will be available.
