USA to produce Chinese electric hypercar with sub-2-second launch time

Mullen Automotive has announced the impending production start and North American sales of a new battery hypercar named the GT. It can sprint from standstill to 96.6 km/h (60 miles per hour) in less than two seconds.

In reality, the model is none other than the China-designed Qiantu K50, which debuted on its domestic market a few years ago in a much lower specification. With 380 PS (375 hp / 279 kW) and 580 Nm (428 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal, it needed 4.6 seconds for the same sprint.

The U.S. spec is drastically different, but Mullen hasn’t revealed in what way yet. The only thing known so far is the top speed: 322 km/h, or 200 mph. It also remains to be announced where the production will take place.

The American company signed the deal with the Chinese automaker four years ago. The electric coupe had originally been expected to arrive on the U.S. market in 2020, but disagreements between the partners resulted in it being put on hold.
