Dodge lists brake chute under Challenger Demon 170 options

Soon after the launch of the most powerful mass-produced Dodge car ever, the media switched their attention to the accessories offered for purchase. According to The Drive, there is a brake parachute on the list right now.

Later on, the Direct Connection catalog should expand with more options, but the only one listed right now is the chute mounted at the rear end of the car. Per NHRA, such extreme braking measures are mandatory in drag racing for all cars capable of sub-9-second quarter-mile runs. The official data says the coupe needs 8.91 seconds for that exercise.

The previous Challenger Demon had 852 PS (840 hp / 627 kW) at its disposal, concluded the sprint in 2.3 seconds, completed the quarter-mile run in 9.65 seconds and only hit its speed ceiling at 340 km/h (211 mph).

The newcomer takes advantage of E85 fuel (85 percent ethanol, 15 percent gasoline) to slam the wheels with a record-high 1,039 PS (1,025 hp / 764 kW). It still easily accepts normal pump gas, auto-adjusting for its octane number and pumping out 913 PS (901 hp / 672 kW) from it. A launch from a modest starting speed (undisclosed) to 96.6 km/h (60 mph) takes 1.66 seconds, the manufacturer points out.
