Porsche confirms that ICE Boxster and Cayman aren’t going anywhere yet

Porsche plans to launch all-electric variants of its two most affordable sports cars in two years, but it will keep the gas-powered Boxster and Cayman around, CEO Oliver Blume confirmed at a recent press conference. Both will be kept up-to-date and sold alongside their EV counterparts.

The company reasons that offering both versions simultaneously will help the customers choose the optimal time to transition from gas to electric power. Before they go on sale like that, both models will have to be refreshed first. Rumor has it both will get improved engines to stay competitive.

According to Blume, the Porsche 718 will only remain available as an EV for the medium term. By the start of the next decade, all-electric vehicles are supposed to make 80 percent of all Porsche sales, the official roadmap states.

The company plans to follow the same tactic with its Macan EV, which it plans to introduce next year. The ICE Macan will remain available for a while longer.
