BYD finds a workaround for slow EV charging

Chinese automaker BYD has patented a new charging method for its Denza EV lineup that has never really been new and has always kind of floated in the air. According to CarNewsChina, the company plans to install not one, but two charging ports onto its D9 model.

The Denza D9 minivan comes equipped with a large 103-kWh traction battery that supports charging powers up to 166 kW. However, fast charging terminals in China tend to average at just 120 kW, resulting in significantly longer wait times.

To address this issue, the Denza D9 will be manufactured with two charging ports supporting simultaneous connections. Drivers simply need to park the vehicle between the two terminals and plug them in both to achieve the desired 166 kW.
