BMW to produce at least 6 ‘New Class’ EVs

The Neue Klasse car architecture that BMW has been developing over the past few years will eventually lie at the base of at least six different production vehicles, the company said during its annual press conference. These will all come out in 2025–2027, but there will be other EVs before them, too.

The Neue Klasse is designed to improve the driving performance of the cars and their maximum range thanks to state-of-the-art power cells. They will also take advantage of cutting-edge technologies, ranging from powertrain to multimedia features. The infotainment UI, in particular, will be completely overhauled.

These planned new EVs may also introduce the market to the radically new design philosophy BMW previewed on its I Vision Dee Concept not long ago (check out the gallery and the video for more).

The production of the first Neue Klasse EV is scheduled to begin in Debrecen, Hungary in two years’ time. Factories in Munich and Mexico are expected to join in later. For now, the first candidates for production are a sporty crossover SUV and a sedan sized close to the latest 3-Series.

By 2024, the Bavarian automaker plans to increase the share of electric cars in its overall sales to 20%, followed by a rise to 33% until 2026 and to 50% by the end of the decade.
