Lamborghini talks about the Aventador successor
Lamborghini has revealed a number of interesting details concerning the LB744, its latest supercar prototype destined to pick up where the Aventador left off. At the center of the build is what the company calls a ‘monohull’, an innovative body made from forged carbon fiber.
Carbon is also used for the load-bearing cage of the cabin, but this is no different from the solution used in the Aventador. What is new is the front frame and subframe supporting the suspension. Previously made from aluminum, these parts are now carbon-fiber, too.
The company claims that the structure is designed to dampen twice as much energy as its previous iteration used in the Aventador. At the same time, it weighs 20 percent less and exhibits 25% higher torsional rigidity.
The above notwithstanding, there will be aluminum chassis parts, too. These largely reside at the rear end of the car where the suspension and the engine bay are located. The Italian manufacturer says it merged select structural components into larger ones to minimize weight while improving the overall stiffness of the frame and get rid of welding seams. As a result, the chassis of the LB744 weighs 10 percent less than that of the Aventador.
