Geely introduces new Galaxy brand, outlines 7 new EVs

Geely Auto has held a special event in China dedicated to the launch of another premium electrified vehicle brand, Galaxy. The company’s plans involve releasing three BEVs and four high-range PHEVs with this badge over the course of the next two years.

A production-ready SUV and a concept vehicle premiered during the announcement. The company also shed some light on the technical specifications.

The Galaxy badge will enjoy its own, unique styling and run on two main platforms. The first one will be the E-CMA architecture co-designed between Geely and Volvo. The other one will be a proprietary platform developed specifically for electric cars.

The Geely Galaxy L7 SUV will be the first to reach the market in the second quarter of 2023. It will utilize a hybrid powertrain known as NordThor 8848 and need 7.5 seconds for the sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph). The top speed will be capped at 200 km/h (124 mph). With an average petrol consumption of 5.23 liters per 100 kilometers (45 miles per U.S. gallon), it will have 1,370 km (851 miles) of range with the battery and the tank filled to the max.

Two sedans will join the company of the SUV later this year, including a hybrid called the L6 in Q3 and a mystery model named the E8 in Q4. Neither has been shown to us yet, but we do know that both are based on the Galaxy Light Concept, an aerodynamic show car with an unusual door arrangement (butterfly wings at the front and suicide doors at the rear). The interior was also rather futuristic and housed an enormous display spanning nearly the entire dashboard width. It is an open question just which of these features will actually make it into production.
