Honda toys around with EVs sounding like retro classics… or business jets

During a recent technology presentation in Japan, Honda Motor Company has unveiled a rather intriguing feature coming to its electric cars. Drivers will be ale to switch between different imitated engine sounds on the go, and there will be some unusual options in the mix, Motor1 reports.

Screenshots from the presentation list common engine sound options like Civic Type R or NSX Type S alongside more iconic ones like the 1992 NSX, 1999 S2000, and 1988 CR-X. More interestingly, they list such offbeat options as “Honda Jet” (an airplane), “Honda F1” (a Formula 1 race car), and “VTEC” (Honda’s proprietary powertrain design). Once an option is selected, the whole dashboard UI gets reskinned to correspond to your choice.

While still technically a concept, Honda says the option will likely make it into its EVs sooner or later. There is no release estimate, so brace up for some waiting time. As a side note, no other EV manufacturer is currently offering a selection of iconic vehicle sounds like this one.
