Meet the Volkswagen ID. 2all, another affordable EV concept
Not too long ago, Volkswagen unveiled a prototype of a wallet-friendly electric car dubbed the ID. Life. The executives reportedly weren’t fond of its design, though, and so it went back to the drawing board. The second attempt is here now, called the ID. 2all.
The ID. Life styling cues are nowhere to be found, and the overall design now feels much closer to Volkswagen cars. The front fascia and c-pillars in particular put us in the mind of the VW Golf.
The management of the company must have pre-approved the project, because CEO Thomas Schaefer said during the reveal that the ID. 2all would actually be used as the basis for the marque’s future cars.
The vehicle is only 4,050 mm (158.2 in) long, but the wheelbase is rather impressive for the size at 2,600 mm (101.5 in), meaning there could be enough legroom for taller passengers as well. The wheels measure 20 inches across.
Power comes from an electric motor system rated at 226 PS (223 hp / 166 kW) and 450 km (280 miles) of range. Sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) succeeds in under 7 seconds, and the top speed is capped at 160 km/h (99 mph).
The mass-market implementation of the car is scheduled to debut in 2025.
